Arbor Day

For 20 years, the City of Titusville has been a "Tree City". Tree City USA is one of the oldest programs of the Arbor Day Foundation. Over 3,600 communities from across the Nation participate in the program and Titusville is proud to be one of those communities.  By continuing to participate in this program, the City meets its goal of protecting and maintaining trees for environmental and aesthetic benefits, while also allowing opportunities for engagement and education. Certified Green Local Government

The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) designates Green Cities and Green Counties for outstanding environmental stewardship. The City of Titusville is proud to be recognized as Certified Silver Local Government as of 2019. The FGBC Green Local Government Standard presents a comprehensive list of criteria, organized in terms of local government department functions. It focuses on improving environmental performance through a number of city operations, incentives and educational opportunities, including energy, water, air, land, waste. Keep Brevard Beautiful (KBB)’s Lagoon Friendly Lawn Program

Keep Brevard Beautiful’s Lagoon Friendly Lawns program, in partnership with the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program, is recognizing local residents who are helping to prevent algal blooms and fish kills by minimizing nutrient pollution and stormwater runoff from their yards and restoring ecosystem functions with native plants.

KBB’s Litter Quitter Program

Litter Quitter is a Keep Brevard Beautiful program - backed by support from Brevard Zoo- that uses partnerships with local businesses as a means of reducing common sources of litter, like single-use plastics, plastic bags and polystyrene (Styrofoam). KBB’s volunteers help encourage local restaurants to make one small, cost-effective business practice change to reduce litter. In exchange, businesses receive free marketing promotion, discounts on sustainable products, and networking/education opportunities.

i-Tree Design

Looking to plant a new tree and want to find the best place to plant it? The i-Tree online software allows you to type in your address and visualize the best location to maximize energy savings and understand the many benefits that trees provide.

Water Quality Testing Data

The St. Johns River Water Management District maintains a network of water quality monitoring stations and equipment which sample surface waters across the district, including the Indian River Lagoon. Data from the water samples, including nutrients, ions, and physical characteristics are available online at St. Johns River Water Management District.

Air Quality Index

The United State Environmental Protection Agency collects air quality data from outdoor monitors across the nation. Titusville’s air quality is reported in the Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville Air Quality Index Report.

Titusville Environmental Commission (TEC)

Established in 1991 the Titusville Environmental Commission (TEC) is an advisory body made up of Titusville residents, appointed by the City Council, to provide guidance on environmental policies.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ & My Brevard Yard

Grow and maintain a beautiful lawn while minimizing your impact on local water quality. Participate in My Brevard Yard workshops and receive customized landscaping help for your yard. Made possible through the UF/IFAS Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program.

Florida Friendly Fertilizer Use Ordinance

On January 14, 2014, the City of Titusville took a strong stand on protecting its waterways with the adoption of the Florida Friendly Fertilizer Use Ordinance. The ordinance regulates the application of nutrients commonly found in fertilizers and establishes when and where fertilizer may be applied within the City.

Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EELs) Program Calendar

The Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program was established in 1990. The program protects the natural habitats of Brevard County by acquiring environmentally sensitive lands for conservation, passive recreation, and environmental education. Benefits of Mangroves

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection reminds citizens of the importance of mangrove trees and how to comply with the Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act. In some cases, trimming may require a permit and/or the hiring of a professional mangrove trimmer, or PMT.

Wildlife Lighting Criteria

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reviews fixtures and lamp products to become Wildlife Lighting certified. This program helps to educate Florida residents about how to minimize adverse impacts to wildlife by using proper lighting methods.
